This annual competition gives students across Canada the chance to deepen their understanding of the world while developing essential geographic skills in a fun and engaging way.

Why participate in the Challenge?
1. Compete with other geography students all across Canada!
The Can Geo Challenge aims to recognize the top geography students across Canada. The program begins by competeing agaist your peers in the classroom and school round. Next, all school winners have the opportunity to compete against top students in their own province/territory. Finally, top provincial winners will be given the opportunity to compete against the top winners nationwide in our Can Geo Challenge National Final!
2. Win great prizes!
All school winners receive a prize! Students will receive a one-year subscription to Canadian Geographic magazine as well as a certificate recognizing their achievement.
3. It is completely free to participate!
The Can Geo Challenge is accessible to all schools, with no cost to join! All teachers have to do is create an account so they are able to log in and access the tests.
4. Easy to accommodate busy schedules
The flexible format of the Can Geo Challenge allows teachers to fit this program into their curriculum without disrupting their planned lessons. Teachers can choose to have students complete online or print copies of the tests. You can also sign up clubs to compete!
5. Represent Canada on the international stage at the International Geography Olympiad (for Level 3 students only)
Each year, The Royal Canadian Geographical Society sponsors the top students from Level 3 to represent Canada on the global stage at the International Geography Olympiad. Last year, Team Canada competed in Bangkok, Thailand. The 2026 competition will take place in Istanbul, Türkiye.
